Statements by the MEF minister on parallel decentralization cause shame, says economist Moreira

Judith Pena | June 8, 2023

Shame and shame is what, according to the economist Raúl Moreira, causes the fact that the Minister of Economy and Finance Héctor Alexander ignores the issue of parallel decentralization.

“I am very sorry, I feel ashamed for the response that the minister gave when he said that he approves the budget and that each one executes it as they see fit and that he did not know what the issue of parallel decentralization was about,” said the economist Raúl Moreira in an interview with Radio Panama when assuring that it is not two reales but more than 200 million that have gone to the communal boards related to the current government.

He stated that the Minister of Economy and Finance or whoever he designates is a member of the board of directors of the Decentralization Authority, so he cannot wash his hands of what happens within this institution.

He argued that the country’s public debt reached 14,400 million at the end of April and if they have no idea where that money has gone, there is a serious problem.
