Statement by journalists from Peru: “We need to protect the constitutional order and the rule of law”

The National Association of Journalists of Peru – ANP, in these key hours for the country’s history, expresses its absolute rejection of any form of violation of the constitutional order and the rule of law. We consider deplorable the unconstitutional and illegal behavior of Mr. Pedro Castillo Terrones, by “dissolving the Congress of the Republic and establishing an exceptional emergency government.” Said action and that of representatives of other State powers expose the precarious democracy of the Peruvian State.

Likewise, we remind the media and fellow journalists in general that the work that is carried out at this time is essential for the historical narrative and social order. We call for the social and democratic role of communication to be prioritized at these key moments for Peru.
