MADRID, Spain.- The Lady in White Sonia Álvarez was arrested this Sunday by State Security when she was about to go to church to ask for the release of her relatives; her daughter Sayli Navarro and her husband Félix Navarro; both political prisoners of the Cuban regime.
It is worth remembering that, since January 21, 2022, when the Cuban dissident and leader of the Ladies in White, Berta Soler, announced that they were reactivating “the campaign of confrontation for the freedom of all political prisoners without exclusion”, the main members of the opposition group have been constantly harassed.
The complaint about the recent arrest of Sonia Álvarez was made through social media by activist Marcel Valdés.
“Today, like many other times, she was arrested and fined by State Security,” Valdés said in her publication, from which she also reminded Cubans that “there are many brave people in the streets protesting and demonstrating day by day for the freedom of a country.
“Support them, contribute your bit. Remember that it is also our country and it is the responsibility of all Cubans to fight for the freedom of our homeland,” she added.
Last April, Sayli Navarro and her father were imprisoned at the conclusion of an appeal trial for the popular protests of 11J in Perico and Jovellanos, Matanzas.
Félix Navarro, 69 years old and leader of the Pedro Luis Boitel Party for Democracy, is being held in the Agüica prison, in the province of Matanzas, where he is serving a sentence of nine years of imprisonment. While against Saily the regime handed down a sentence of eight years in jail.
