The civil collective Peruanos de Estado urged the Congress of the Republic to grant the legislative powers requested by the Executive Branch.
Days ago, within the framework of a visit to the Legislative Palace, the president of the Republic, José Jeríanticipated that the Government will request legislative powers to legislate on matters of citizen security.
“We have informed the Board of Directors (of Congress), and on the basis of preliminary coordination with the Council of Ministers, request legislative powers to legislate mainly on issues of citizen security. We, as a government of unity, dialogue, and national reconciliation, will continue working to end citizen insecurity,” he then declared to the media.
Through a statement, Peruanos de Estado maintained that these powers are necessary “to defend peace and recover internal order.” “They are essential to sustain democratic institutions and exemplary presidential elections in 2026,” they indicated.
In this context, they also called on business, academic and civil associations to “join in a civic campaign in the media and social networks to disseminate and cultivate democratic values that allow us to advance as a society.”
“Citizen security is a duty of the government and a shared responsibility. United and firm in the defense of legality we can build a country in which peace, justice and hope prevail,” reads the statement signed by Carlos Añaños, Ricardo Márquez, Raúl Diez Canseco Terry and Roque Benavides.
The group also spoke out about the events that occurred during the mobilization last Wednesday, October 15.
“The loss of a human life is a painful event that should move us all. Peaceful protests yes, but the protection of the law. We trust that due process in the investigations will establish the corresponding responsibility,” he says.
In addition, he recognized the work of the National Police and the Ministry of the Interior, highlighting that by fulfilling their constitutional duty they seek to recover internal order and eradicate citizen insecurity throughout the country.
