The death toll as a result of the rains that hit the state of São Paulo has reached 18 since last Friday, according to the São Paulo government. According to the Civil Defense balance sheet, of the total number of deaths, seven are children. There are still nine wounded and five missing. Approximately 500 families are displaced or homeless.
The deaths occurred in Várzea Paulista (5), Francisco Morato (4), Embu das Artes (3), Franco da Rocha (3), Arujá (1), Jaú (1), and Ribeirão Preto (1). Most deaths were caused by landslides and landslides.
“My condolences to the families and friends of the 18 fatal victims. We are working on rescues and I authorized R$ 15 million in resources so that the municipalities can welcome those affected”, highlighted the governor of São Paulo, João Doria, who flew over the areas most affected by the rain in the Greater São Paulo region.
The funds announced will be allocated to the municipalities of Arujá (R$ 1 million), Francisco Morato (R$ 2 million), Embu das Artes (R$ 1 million) and Franco da Rocha (R$ 5 million), in the metropolitan region of São Paulo, and Várzea Paulista (R$1 million), Campo Limpo Paulista (R$1 million), Jaú (R$1 million), Capivari (R$1 million), Montemor (R$1 million) and Rafard (R$1 million) 1 million), within the state.
The Civil Defense of the State keeps active alert of heavy rains, followed by lightning and winds in much of the state, with risk, in vulnerable areas, of landslides, landslides, flooding, floods and occurrences related to lightning and wind.
