The State of São Paulo and the city government of the capital of São Paulo have declared seven days of official mourning due to the death of presenter and businessman Silvio Santos, which occurred in the early hours of this Saturday (17).
“The businessman combined his entrepreneurial profile, trained as a street vendor in his adolescence, with his powerful and unmistakable voice to create a popular style that captivated the masses. His career in radio and TV channels went hand in hand with his entrepreneurial flair in various segments and as head of SBT. A native of Rio de Janeiro, he chose São Paulo as his home since the 1950s,” highlighted Governor Tarcísio de Freitas, in a statement.

The city of São Paulo also mourned the death of the presenter and, in a statement, expressed deep regret for the death of Silvio Santos, “an icon of Brazilian television and a prominent figure in the culture of our country”.
Silvio Santos died at the age of 93 due to bronchopneumonia after an infection with Influenza (H1N1). He was hospitalized at the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, in the capital of São Paulo. There is no information about the wake yet.
