State of SP confirms two more cases of methanol poisoning

Surveillance seizes more than 7,000 bottles of drinks in São Paulo

In a report released this afternoon, the São Paulo State Department of Health (SES-SP) reported that the total number of confirmed cases in the state of methanol poisoning after ingestion of distilled alcoholic beverages increased from 23 to 25.State of SP confirms two more cases of methanol poisoning

The two new cases were registered in the capital and in the city of São José dos Camposthis being the first confirmed occurrence in the interior of the state. There is no information whether the patient from São José dos Campos was in the metropolitan region of São Paulo before being treated.

The state has so far confirmed five deaths and is investigating 160 cases of possible methanol poisoning. According to the secretariat, 189 cases were discarded after clinical and epidemiological analyses.

Prisons

Three people were arrested yesterday (9) and today (10) by the inspection task force, bringing the total number of arrests in the state of São Paulo for counterfeiting drinks to 49 for the year. Of these, 28 have occurred since September 29, when coordinated inspections began.
