The São Paulo Department of Health confirmed the registration of the first measles case in the state in 2025. The victim is a 31 -year -old man who was vaccinated and did not need hospitalization. It is already recovered and without symptoms of the disease.

Cases may evolve to serious complications and cause intense diarrhea, ear infections, blindness, pneumonia and encephalitis (brain inflammation). Some of these complications may be fatal.
Initially, the disease manifests itself with high fever, malaise, runny nose, conjunctivitis, cough and lack of appetite. During this period, white spots (koplik) can be observed on the inner face of the cheeks. The red spots on the skin begin to appear behind the ears, spread throughout the body and, after three days, tend to decrease.
The vaccine is available at the UBS of the city of São Paulo from Monday to Friday, from 7am to 7pm, and on Saturdays and holidays in the Integrated AMAS/UBSS (outpatient medical care/Basic Integrated Health Units at the same time.

In 2016, Brazil received certification of the elimination of the virus that causes measles.
