In August, the number of intentional deaths registered in the state of São Paulo was the lowest for the month in the entire historical series, which began in 2001. According to criminal statistics that were released this Monday (30) by the Public Security Secretariat of São Paulo, the state recorded 196 intentional homicides last month, eight cases less than the same period in 2023. This was the first time in history, according to the secretariat, that the rate was below 200 cases for the month of August in São Paulo.
Last month, the lowest number of robberies for that month since 2001, when the historical series began, was also recorded. There were 15,185 incidents, which represented a drop of 19.7% compared to August 2023, when 18,901 cases of robberies were reported in the state.
Another indicator that fell in August was rape. Last month, police stations in São Paulo registered 1,250 reports of rape, a drop of 4.9% compared to August 2023. As for cases of feminicide, the Women’s Defense police stations registered 16 cases in August this year, three less than in the same period last year.
The statistics released today also showed a reduction in the theft indicator, which fell 5.5% in August, in the annual comparison, totaling 46,932 cases. According to the Public Security Secretariat, the drop in robberies and theft cases in August “reiterates the police’s commitment to combating property crimes in the state”.
