The state of Rio de Janeiro recorded a record number of new companies opened in July, with a total of 7,315 new businesses. This is the best record for the period in the 215 years of existence of the Commercial Board of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Jucerja). This increase occurred for the fourth time this year and for the second consecutive month. In total, the state recorded 44,158 new companies in the first seven months of the year, the best result for the period from January to July.
Governor Cláudio Castro attributed the result to the favorable business environment that has developed in Rio de Janeiro. According to Castro, entrepreneurship fosters economic growth as it generates jobs, stimulates increased production and consumption, and promotes innovation and competitiveness, boosting the economy.

The other 2024 records were broken in June (6,597), April (7,035) and January (5,528). July’s figure represents a 5% increase over the previous record for the month, set in 2022 (6,970 new businesses), and a 9.6% increase over the total for the same period last year (6,671).
The president of Jucerja, Sergio Romay, highlighted that the agency has been working to simplify and reduce bureaucracy in processes, aiming to “facilitate and encourage entrepreneurship and, thus, contribute to the economic and social development of Rio de Janeiro”.
Of the 7,315 new businesses registered in July, 6,810 were incorporations. There were also 386 branch openings and 119 transfer registrations. The main activities of the new companies are office services (1,554), medical offices (1,240), clothing and accessories trade (1,142) and restaurants (1,102).
Among the municipalities that opened the most companies in 2024 are Rio de Janeiro (22,522), Niterói (2,997), Duque de Caxias (1,651), São Gonçalo (1,428) and Campos (1,057).
