From this Wednesday, August 17 to Sunday, August 21, you will have an appointment with literature, art and culture, in the XVII edition of the International Book Fair (FIL), which for the first time will take place in the Center of Megapolis Conventions, and that after two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it returns to full attendance.
This festival of letters will be full of attractions for the whole family. More than 70 publishers from more than a dozen countries have a rich offer with hundreds of titles that appeal to readers of all ages and with varied interests. Recitals, round tables, more than 10 literary galas still constitute not insignificant proposals.
Orit Btesh, president of the Panamanian Book Chamber, stressed that this year the European Union will be the guest of honor.
Among the writers who will come to the country to talk about their most recent works are Cristian Alarcón, Alfaguara Novel Prize 2022; as well as Jorge Díaz and Antonio Mercero, who together with Agustín Martínez won the 2021 Planeta Prize. These three writers are responsible for the pseudonym Carmen Mola.
Renato Cisneros, Mariana Palova, Liliana Blum and Alberto Villareal will also come.
In addition, 95 national writers will be present, which Btesh considered as another great event within the framework of this fair. “We have asked the Authority for the Attraction of Investments and Promotion of Exports (Propanama) to assist us in the promotion of national writers, to give them the opportunity to leave the country and make their talent known, and they are going to support so that our writers are recognized internationally,” he said.
It should be noted that for years, the FIL also opens a space for all emerging writers to make their stories known to the public.
“There will be more than 285 activities, including workshops, forums, dialogues, book stations, etc. In addition, we will enable a section dedicated to comics and, on the other hand, journalism forums, as well as talks on topics such as sexual education, migration and gender and educational workshops”, highlighted Btesh.
