This Sunday, May 15, in Panama, the total lunar eclipse will be appreciated at the national level.

It is an astronomical phenomenon that will begin in the hours of Sunday night and will culminate in the early hours of Monday, May 16.

The moon will cross the shadow of the earth and will appear dark red during totality, as explained by Ángel Zanutelli, from the “Sirius” Society of Amateur Astronomers in Coclé.

He explained that the maximum point of the moon will be around 11:11 pm, and it can be seen from 8:30 pm when its penumbrality begins. “At 9:00 pm, almost 10:00 pm touches what is the first contact of the Earth’s shadow on the moon and at 11:11 pm we have the totality of the eclipse”, she limited.

Zanutelli made a number of recommendations. “If you have a telescope and want to start seeing the eclipse from the beginning, you must use a special filter known as a lunar filter, since the moon is white and radiates great light towards our eyes, and in the long term it can cause cataracts. When the eclipse is in its entirety, you don’t have to use the filter because the moon has been obscured by 60 to 70%,” he added.

He added that if some will observe the eclipse at a specific point, bring chairs to appreciate it in the best way and not affect our necks due to a bad position.
