The Tramway Alliance of Mexico (ATM) confirmed that staggered strikes continue in the Electric Transport Service (STE), an action that is part of the day of protest started last week by the Department of Structures, to which the Workshop areas and, more recently, Administrative Offices have subsequently joined.
Gerardo Martínez Hernández, Secretary General of the ATM, stressed that the movement remains firm in defense of the labor rights of workers, denouncing violations of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and the breach of various commitments by the company.
Among the main demands of the union are the delivery of uniforms and necessary protective clothinghe payment of outstanding debtsthe hiring and training of personneland the compliance with other benefits which, in accordance with the collective contract, correspond to the worker base.
It should be noted that this Tuesday afternoon an Assembly will be held at the union headquarters, where the actions to follow will be presented, as well as the response that the company has given.
Martínez Hernández also reiterated a call for union unity, highlighting that the fight is for the benefit of all and the need to maintain and strengthen the organization. Likewise, he stated that the movement is peaceful and its objective is for the authorities to meet their demands without harming the users of the service.
Finally, Martínez added, “the ATM reaffirms its commitment to the citizens and urges the authorities of the Government of Mexico City and the STE to establish an immediate dialogue that allows reaching a solution to this labor conflict, for the well-being of the workers and the capital’s electric transportation.”
