THE Bulletin Infogipe da Fiocruz A warning to the trend of increasing cases of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SRAG) between children and adolescents, especially between 5 and 14 years old, with the return to school. Researcher at Infogipe Bulletin, Tatiana Portella points out that this scenario has been registered mainly in the state of Goiás and the Federal District.
The return to the school year, when children spend more time in closed environments, in greater contact and less air circulation, favors the transpiratory virus transmission. Given this picture, the expert recommends that if the child or adolescent has a symptom of flu syndrome, avoid going to school.
“The guidance is to stay at home in isolation, recovering from the infection to avoid transmitting the virus to other children inside the school and thus breaking the transmission chain of these respiratory viruses. If it is not possible to keep the child at home in isolation, the recommendation is that if she is already appropriate, go to school wearing a good mask, especially inside the classroom, ”said Tatiana.
The researcher also drew attention to Covid-19, which has mainly affected the elderly population, but also impacts young children and other risk groups. “We ask these people to be up to date with vaccination against the virus to avoid developing the most serious forms of the disease. In addition, it is important that this population, especially people who reside in states with increased SRAG cases by Covid-19, use masks in closed places and also within health posts, ”said the researcher.
In the national scenario, the update shows that SRAG cases remain low or falling in most states of the Northeast, Southeast and also the south of the country. Regarding the Northern Region (Amapá, Rondônia, Tocantins) and also in the Midwest (Mato Grosso), the update found growth of SRAG cases associated with COVID-19, especially among the elderly.
“However, in some other states in the northern region, such as Amazonas, Pará and Maranhão, we have already observed the beginning of reversal of this growth and even fall in the number of new cases serious by Covid-19,” said the researcher.
