Coach Pia Sundhage has called up 26 players from the Brazilian national team who will compete for the title of the Women’s Final against England on April 6 and, five days later, a friendly against Germany, the last one before the Women’s Soccer World Cup. On the list announced this Monday (20) are two debutants: goalkeeper Camila (Santos) and striker Aline (Ferroviária). Who is back in the team is midfielder Duda Sampaio (Corinthians), already recovered from injury.
We got a lot closer to the final list. As you can imagine there will always be changes, we’ve made some now. We will discuss in the last minutes who will be in the World Cup. We have some new names, and it’s very good because we are going to face two great opponents and we will be able to observe them – said the coach in a press conference this morning at the headquarters of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), in Rio de Janeiro.
Brazil’s clashes against England and Germany – two top 5 teams in the world ranking – are crucial in preparing the team for the Women’s World Cup, starting on July 20, in Australia and New Zealand.
The Finalissima will put face to face the Brazilian and English teams, champions of the Copa América (Conmebol) and Euro Feminina (Uefa), respectively. The duel will take place at Wembley Stadium, in London, at 4:45 pm (Brasília time) on April 6 (Thursday). Then the Brazilian team heads to Germany, to face the host team, current European runner-up, on April 11 (Tuesday), at 2 pm, at the Max Morlock Stadium, in Nuremberg.
The two games will take place on the Fifa Date (period set aside by football’s highest body for teams to play friendlies or official matches), which runs from April 3 to 11.
