The club from the Tico capital inflicted the second consecutive defeat on the Alajuelense team, which on Sunday lost 0-1 to Saprissa in the national soccer classic, the two teams with the most followers in this country.
Although apparently, the Alajuelenses played better than their rivals, but they did not take it to the board, something that Sporting San José did and with it they got the three points they needed to ascend to first place, and with one challenge less than the rest of the occupants at the top of the table.
The goals for the winners were scored by Bryan López, at 51 minutes, and Giovanni Clunie, at 89′, while Johan Venegas did it for the losers, at 64′.
In the other pending match of the first date of the fight, the defending champion, Herediano, tied with Jicaral at one, and continues without achieving a victory in this Tournament, since in six matches he has five draws and one defeat.
Because at the start of the match, soccer players from almost all teams were infected with Covid-19, some teams have fewer games than the rest.
The 12 teams participating in the Clausura Tournament will play 22 games each, in two rounds of all against all in the regular stage. The best four will go to a semi-final and if the winner of the first phase prevails in the second, they will be the national champion.
Otherwise, the winners of each of the stages will define in round-trip matches who will take the Cup to their showcase.
