MIAMI, United States. — Delays in the delivery of basic necessities to the population is one of the symptoms of the food crisis who have lived in Cuba for decades.

In Sancti Spíritus, the official newspaper Escambray points out that several municipalities in the province still do not receive the oil corresponding to the month of January.

In this sense, the authorities allude to difficulties with transportation to justify the delay.

Iván Padilla Ramos, director of the Wholesale Food and Other Consumer Goods Company in Sancti Spíritus, told state media that the 24 tons of oil corresponding to the month of January should be distributed in the next few days to 82 warehouses in three municipalities that were pending. .

However, the manager said he did not know when the people from Sancti Spiritus will receive the oil for the current month: a total of 114 tons corresponding to the standard family basket.

Padilla Ramos admitted that many consumers not only have not received the oil for January and February, the bean and pea quota corresponding to those months is also pending, which “will be distributed as they arrive in the territory.”

“The rice corresponding to March is already being received to distribute it at a rate of seven pounds per consumer, and the additional pound announced for February has not been given up, only that the Wholesale Company’s warehouses still do not have the required quantities ”said the state official.

Food shortages are not the only problem that Cubans face on a daily basis: in many cases there are also delays in food and products available in the country that do not reach their destination due to lack of transportation.

This Thursday the Minister of Energy and Mines of Cuba, Vicente de la O Levy, recognized in space Round table that there are delays in the delivery of the salt quota for the population due to transport problems of the resource.
