A dozen corruption cases that investigated and denounced the special team Lava Jato, and involving three former presidents of the Republic, are ready to enter in March in the oral trial phase. These are the processes that involve ex-president Alejandro Toledo (2001-2006), Ollanta Humala (2011-2016) and Martín Vizcarra (2018-2020). To these are added the megacas “Construction Club”, “Metro de Lima” and “Cocktails”, where the main accused is the president of Popular Force, Keiko Fujimori.
The cases of former mayor Susana Villarán, former president Pedro Pablo Kuczynski and former Governor of Cusco, Jorge Acurio Tito, must also be added.
Oral trials will start as soon as the Judiciary resolves the current requirements.
The special team Lava Jato has investigated 851 people and 57 companies, and has denounced 252 citizens related to 22 cases of corruption, said the spokesman of the Public Ministry, the former Supreme He took a balance on prosecutors’ team actions.
The meeting was headed by the Prosecutor of the Nation, Delia Espinoza, which is interpreted as support for the Special Lava Jato team, which was represented by the coordinator, the Superior Prosecutor Rafael Vela Barba, and by the prosecutors José Domingo Pérez and Germán Juárez Atoche.
The conference was recorded a few weeks after the start of tax investigations against Rafael Vela and José Domingo Pérez, authorized by the prosecutor Delia Espinoza. But it was the Prosecutor of the Nation who organized the presentation of the Special Lava Jato team so that its coordinator and its members directly communicate the results of their work.
“I publicly recognize the important work that has been deploying largely and for several years the special team Lava Jato,” said prosecutor Espinoza. The nation prosecutor extended the hand to prosecutors, although some tension in the environment was noticed, for the context in which the conference occurred.
However, it was not mentioned at the meeting with the press if the open investigations against Vela and Pérez will affect their performance as part of the team.
Toledo and Humala cases

The prosecutor projected that by March a conviction could be issued on this process.
Vela also estimated that in May of this year there would be a sentence for the former head of state, Ollanta Humala, his wife Nadine Heredia and 11 alleged accomplices, for laundering of aggravated money, in the modality of conversion and concealment. It refers to the money that according to the former representative of the Brazilian company Odebrecht, Jorge Barata, delivered to the Humalist presidential campaign.
Cocktails and Vizcarra cases
For his part, prosecutor José Domingo Pérez intervened on what will happen to the “Cocktail Case”, which received a hard blow when the Judiciary, extended a ruling from the Constitutional Court, annulled the trial against Keiko Fujimori, on January 14 This year.
“We are expecting what you can resolve to the Appeals Room. We have raised an appeal to the decision adopted in the first instance by the Collegiate Criminal Court, which declared the nullity of the judgment in a majority with respect to the Cocktails case, ”Pérez explained.
“We are under that expectation that the Judiciary covers the appeal and will be the superior prosecutor Rafael Vela, prosecutor in the second instance, who will enforce the claim of the Public Ministry so that this process continues in the trial that began last June first.” The prosecutor Pérez highlighted.
On the case of Keikjo Fujimori, prosecutor Rafael Vela highlighted the importance of raising a favorable ruling to continue with the oral trial.
“We hope this appeal will be programmed as soon as possible. We have the expectation that the appeal is scheduled in March, after the higher judges end their holiday rest, which is their right. Once this situation of legal controversy is resolved, the Public Ministry is confident that the oral trial is restarted to Mrs. Keiko Fujimofri and the other accused persons linked to the political group of the Popular Force, ”said Vela.
In turn, prosecutor Germán Juárez Atoche, in charge of the Construction Club Case, offered an advance related to the investigation for alleged corruption against Martín Vizcarra, for the award of public works when he exercised as governor of Moquegua (2011-2014) .
“The geolocation system states that former president Martin Vizcarra attended the house of former Minister of Agriculture José Hernández Calderón, where it is presumed that he received a coima of 200 thousand soles of the ICCGSA consortium for the award of the work of the improvement of the Moquegua Hospital” , prosecutor Juárez said.
“It is true that the Public Ministry has offered as evidence this geolocation for the purpose of establishing that the day a collaborator pointed out that there was a meeting at home, where there was allegedly a coima delivery,” said Germán Juárez. “That geolocation what it does is establish that just Martin Vizcarra was directed to the house of Hernández Calderón, a place that had a meeting and in which the last payment of a coima was given,” Juarez said.
The “Metro de Lima case”, the case that implies former officials of the second regime of former president Alan García Pérez -in which there are statements of effective collaborators and the identification of accounts in the private bank of Andorra where the bribes of Odebrecht-, the responsibility of 9 people has been determined. Between March and April there is expectation of a condemnatory ruling for the defendants.
Among the effective collaborators are the friend of former president García, Miguel Atala Herrera, and his former personal secretary, Luis Nava Guibert, who confirmed the payment of coimas.
Another emblematic case is the so -called “construction club”, which was revealed by the former representative of Odebrecht, Jorge Barata, who confessed that there was a group of construction companies that paid bribes to officials of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, in exchange for the award of millionaire public works.
“Accusation against 29 natural persons and 14 legal persons (companies) has been formulated. The case of the construction club is emblematic by its nature, due to the degree of social branch and its high complexity. It is clearly a case of illicit consortium, ”said superior prosecutor Rafael Vela.
