Santo Domingo. – Agents of the National Directorate of Drug Control (DNCD) and members of the Specialized Airport Security Corps (CESAC), coordinated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, They seized two packages presumably containing cocainea, in a joint interdiction operation carried out at the José Francisco Peña Gómez International Airport of the Americas.
The agents and military personnel, stationed at the terminal, were carrying out supervision work in one of the departure areas, when they detected suspicious images on one of the bags.
The suitcase was then put through one of the X-ray machines, where strange images were observed inside and the protocol for such cases was immediately applied.
Following the instructions of the prosecutor and in the presence of the passenger, the suitcase was opened, finding inside a backpack with a false bottom, containing the two packages of the substance, weighing more than four (04) kilograms.
She was arrested for the case a 49-year-old Spanish womanwhile the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the DNCD are expanding the investigative process to determine if there are others involved in the failed international drug trafficking operation.
Authorities continue to strengthen operational work at airport and port terminals in the country, while packages of the substance, in the form of sheets, were sent to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) for the corresponding purposes.
