The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain, José Manuel Albares, confirmed that his Government will not recognize the opposition extremist Edmundo González Urrutia as president of Venezuela.
The Spanish position was ratified this Friday in New York during a press conference offered by the Iberian chancellor.
His statements are in line with the affirmation of the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, that “he will not break European unity” by recognizing González, who has been granted asylum in his country since the beginning of the month.
Sanchéz assured two days ago, after his participation in the 79th General Assembly of the United Nations, that the solution to the “situation in Venezuela” should come from dialogue between the Bolivarian Government and the opposition.
Allies of extremism do not intend to recognize González Urrutia
The head of Spanish diplomacy also participated in a meeting sponsored by the United States and Argentina attended by 32 countries to analyze the situation in Venezuela, which signed a statement in which they refer to Edmundo González as the person who won “the majority of votes” in the elections of July 28.
However, he said that none of those present at the meeting defended the thesis of recognition of González Urrutia.
On the contrary, he considered that the “solution” has to “be between Venezuelans and in Venezuela, because it cannot be imposed from abroad.”
The Bolivarian Government of Venezuela rejected this statement and assured that it was written by the United States Department of State (USA) in which “a handful of satellite governments” tried to attack the Venezuelan people.
The document of the 32 countries, signed on Thursday, was cataloged by the Chancellor of the Republic, Yván Gil, as “an accumulation of infamies, distortions and coup aspirations, whose epilogue will be, as always, a resounding failure.”
Albares asked to provide consular support to captured mercenaries
On the other hand, José Manuel Albares reported that he held a meeting with the Venezuelan vice chancellor, Ránder Peña, in which he requested to provide consular support to the two Spanish mercenaries detained in Venezuela, José María Basoa and Andrés Martínez Adarme.
“Let no one have any doubt that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and I personally will not spare any effort until these two compatriots unjustly detained in Venezuela are where they always had to be, free and with their families,” he added.
Two weeks ago, the Venezuelan Minister of the Interior, Justice and Peace, Diosdado Cabello, announced the arrest of several mercenaries, including the two Spaniards mentioned by Albares, who intended to execute a terrorist plan against the country’s main political leaders. among them President Nicolás Maduro.
