MIAMI, United States.- Disset Consultors, a Spanish marketing and business consulting firm based in Cuba since 2018, will be in charge of promoting the island’s tourist destinations in the world in the coming years.
According to the Spanish medium Last minute, the company won an international contest organized by the Cuban Ministry of Tourism. The winning proposal faced those of more than 40 agencies from eight countries.
Antoni Pons, general director and co-owner of Disset Consultors together with Pep Lluís García and Javier Tallada, said in an interview with Última Hora that he visited Cuba for the first time in 1999, and more than a decade later he began to seek to offer services to businessmen from Mallorca there present.
“To work in Cuba you have to have a whole series of permits that are not easy to obtain. In April 2016 I made a first trip that I called business prospecting. None of the agencies I had met with were interested. On the other hand, in the advertising agency of the Ministry of Tourism and in the Majorcan hotel chains I detected that there were job options”, said Pons.
The authorization, the businessman said, was obtained “through the Ministry of Culture, which has a company called Cultural Representations, which is used so that foreign companies can work. We set up a design studio to implement the Iberostar brand in Cuba’s hotels”.
Disset Consultors, originally from the Balearic Islands and with links for more than a decade with the Iberostar hotel company, is already in the process of having a representative office in the Cuban Chamber of Commerce.
Likewise, Pons added that he was already authorized to “offer marketing services – not advertising – and business consulting. We can attract and help foreign businessmen who want to invest in Cuba. At the same time, we are negotiating another international economic association with the Ministry of Tourism”.
The campaign “will be launched from September. I am aware of the importance of the campaign for Cuba, since tourism is essential for the country’s economy,” he said.
As explained by the businessman, “Unique Cuba”, the name of the campaign that has already begun to be recorded, “intends to show a Cuba that combines tradition with modernity”.
“Unique Cuba” will be aimed at the general public and professionals in the sector, and “it will have a special impact on Canada, since it is the country that brings the most visitors to Cuba. In fact, about 30% of advertising is destined for the Canadian market, both on television, as well as in the press, radio.
“Cuba is in a constant process of change and modernization. Not so long ago, only millionaire foreign investments were allowed. Now investments of 50,000 euros can be made. We work with the Spanish embassy to organize a business prospecting trip to which we hope numerous entrepreneurs from various sectors will attend. Very important legislative changes are being made in Cuba to give security to foreign investments. In addition, small and medium-sized companies, which did not exist before, have been approved. It seems that soon it will also be approved that foreign companies can invest in this type of company”, he said.
