Spanish airline Iberojet inaugurates route to Santiago de Cuba

The Spanish airline Iberojet inaugurated this November 11 an air route between Madrid and Santiago de Cuba, the second city with the largest population on the Island, which will now have at least one weekly connection with the Iberian country until March 2023.

According to a report of Prensa Latina, the air route began its operations this Friday with an Airbus 33, after a farewell ceremony was held at Terminal 1 of the Barajas airport, in Madrid, headed by Paul Verhagen, deputy general director of Iberojet; Jon Arriaga, president of DIT Management, and Niurka Pérez Denis, Cuban Minister of Tourism for Spain and Portugal.

The agency itself highlighted the importance of the new route, which will allow a more direct connection with different points in Eastern Cuba such as Santiago, Baracoa, Holguín, Camagüey and Las Tunas.

“It will be to get to know the most authentic, unknown Cuba, of natural people, of a country full of beauties and here we go, to discover it,” said Arianne Gorgas, leader of the familiarization group of the tour operator Fly for Vacations, who commanded the journey. together with 39 travel agents from all over Spain.

“For travelers who decide to get to know the country in depth, the company offers the possibility of combining the airports of both Caribbean destinations, allowing them to enter and leave so they can optimize their time and make the visit more comfortable,” added the specialized site. For her part, Diana Salcedo, Iberojet’s sales representative, told Prensa Latina that the company has high expectations with the new route to Santiago de Cuba.

“It is an area little known by the Spanish, which has enormous potential and will allow tourists and people with families in those places to go deeper into the destination and, with the support of travel agencies and the retail network, we expect full flights,” he said. Salcedo.

In principle, the flight to Santiago will not have stopovers and will be added to the two weekly connections of the Spanish company between Madrid and Havana. Last summer Iberojet increased the weekly flights between Havana and Madrid from three to five frequencies and another frequency from Lisbon to Varadero, in high tourist season.
