MADRID, Spain.- The Junta de Castilla y León promotes the hiring of Cuban families to work in personal assistance in the province of Zamora, Spain, through the “Reto Zamora” project.

“We are going to launch ‘Reto Zamora’, a project aimed at attracting families from other countries to the province, preferably Zamorans and their descendants associated with the Zamora houses in Cuba, Mexico and Argentina, due to their special and strong connection with this land, as qualified workers in long-term care and who become new residents in the territory, and thus continue to grow in employment around the care economy”, declared the Minister of Family and Equal Opportunities, Isabel White.

All of them will be guaranteed the necessary training in origin to join personal assistant jobs, being able, once in Spain, to opt for further training to carry out their work in residential centers, Isabel Blanco specified.

Just as he pointed out that these people will arrive with a work contract and each family with a housing solution through social rentals with the collaboration of municipalities and through the intermediation of the Junta de Castilla y León itself. In addition, the expenses derived from the family’s trip to Spain, the housing costs during the first three months and an amount destined for the first installation expenses will be assumed.

according to a official statement published by the Board this week, the pilot project, which is in its first phase, “promotes the need to consider immigration as a strategic element to strengthen long-term care” and aims to “integrate into the Zamoran labor market, during the first months of next year, to families with Spanish nationality linked to the Zamora houses in Cuba, Mexico and Argentina and to start the process of incorporating relatives descending from Zamora”.

The Junta de Castilla y León has granted the municipalities more than 3.6 million euros to carry out the necessary works in the municipally owned homes that will be put at the service of this program, adds the information.

This announcement comes a few days after the Madrid Senate approved the long-awaited Democratic Memory Lawthus opening a door for hundreds of thousands of Cuban descendants of Spaniards to opt for the citizenship of the European nation.

The Spanish Democratic Memory Law, also known as the “Grandchildren’s Law”, was expected by thousands of Cubans on the island, as it also benefits the sons and daughters of Spaniards born abroad, and of Spanish women who lost their nationality due to marry foreigners, as required by a law of the Francisco Franco regime.
