The National Court of Spain approved the extradition of Adrián José Velásquez Figueroa to the United States on charges of money laundering and criminal organization in the middle of a fraud that would have occurred in the currency exchange.
Velasquez was head of security for then Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez and this decision is added to that of the extradition of Claudia Patrícia Díaz Guillén, Former national treasurer of Venezuela and private nurse to Hugo Chávez.
Even though Velásquez has dual nationality, The National Court argued that in previous cases other citizens with dual nationality have been handed over, for which reasone this should not slow down the shipping procedure to “third countries”.
The case, which meets the requirements for extradition, is based on the fact that Velásquez and the businessman Raúl Gorrín were part of a corruption plot in relation to the exchange of foreign currency in the middle of the exchange control of Venezuela.
