SP postpones ICMS collection from companies affected on the north coast

The government of the state of São Paulo informed today (1st) that it will postpone for six months the collection of ICMS from companies affected by the heavy rains in the north coast of the state. The measure, which will be published in the next few days in the State Official Gazettewill be valid for the municipalities of Guarujá, Bertioga, São Sebastião, Caraguatatuba, Ilhabela and Ubatuba. According to the state government, taxpayer companies in these cities should continue calculating the ICMS on commercial transactions normally, month by month. “However, the collection of the tribute can be carried out from the month of August, gradually. There will be no type of monetary correction or fines and interest on the calculated amounts”, informed the government.

According to the calendar released by the government, the ICMS for February should be collected in August 2023 and so on: the one for March will be collected in September 2023; April, in October 2023; May, in November 2023; June, in December 2023; and July, in January 2024.

According to the state government, so far, 65 deaths have been confirmed due to heavy rains in the region: 64 in São Sebastião and one in Ubatuba (SP). 57 bodies have already been identified and released for burial: 21 adult men, 17 adult women and 19 children.

The Secretary of State for Health reported that seven people are still hospitalized at the Regional Hospital of the North Coast (HRLN), in Caraguatatuba (SP). Their state of health is stable. Another 16 patients have already been discharged from hospital and five have been transferred to other units. The government still accounted for 1,090 evacuees and 1,126 evacuees in the region.

A man who would have disappeared in Baleia Verde, on the south coast of São Sebastião, has not yet been located. According to the municipal government, the intelligence sectors of the Federal and Civil Police are investigating whether he might be in another location.

The Mogi-Bertioga Highway (SP-098) remains completely closed due to a pipe rupture at kilometer 82, in Biritiba Mirim (SP). The emergency works began on the 21st, with a forecast for the release of traffic in two months and completion in up to six months. At km 174 of Rio-Santos (SP-055), the road is subject to temporary interruptions, depending on weather conditions.
