THE São Paulo Civil Police carried out search and seizure warrants, this Friday (17), against family members of the woman arrested red handed in São Bernardo (SP)suspected of counterfeit alcoholic beverages with methanol. Her relatives are also being investigated for selling an adulterated product that caused poisoning in a man who is hospitalized in serious condition in the Saúde neighborhood, south of the capital.
According to the police, this criminal group is also responsible for selling the drink that killed two other men, one aged 54 and the other aged 46, who ingested the substance in a bar in the Mooca neighborhood, in the east zone of São Paulo.
In this Friday’s operation, agents have already seized the cell phone of a man who was selling containers used in counterfeiting.
According to the latest bulletin released by the Ministry of Health, there are 41 confirmed cases of methanol poisoning in the country. 107 are under investigation and 469 have been discarded. To date, there have been eight deaths caused by drinking counterfeit drinks in the country, six in SP and two in Pernambuco.
