The government of São Paulo has declared a state of emergency in Artur Nogueira due to the water crisis affecting the city. The decree was published in official diary and is valid for 180 days.
By decree, state public administration bodies and entities are authorized to provide support to the population of the affected areas of Artur Nogueira, with actions coordinated by the State Coordination of Protection and Civil Defense.
After the decree was published, the government of São Paulo announced some measures to help the city cope with the drought. One of them is the dredging of the Cotrins Stream, an attempt to improve the conditions for water collection in the city.
The possibility of installing a temporary pipeline to take water from the Boa Vista stream, known as Poquinha, to one of the city’s Water Treatment Plants (WTP) is also under study, in order to double the volume of water that reaches the WTP. Another action has been the sending of water and basic food baskets to the city’s residents.
On June 28, the municipality of Artur Nogueira had already declared a state of water crisis and emergency due to water shortages, lack of rain and severe drought.
