All electoral offices in the state of São Paulo are open on duty this Saturday (30th) and Sunday (1st), from 11 am to 5 pm, especially for those who need to issue or regularize the voter registration card. Voters who want to vote in the October elections have until May 4, next Wednesday, to resolve any pending issues related to the document.
On the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of May, the opening hours will also be extended and the electoral registry offices in SP will be open three more hours, from 9 am to 6 pm. It is not necessary to schedule an appointment and the citizen will be attended in order of arrival, warned the Regional Electoral Court of São Paulo (TRE-SP).
The same period applies to those who want to transfer the electoral domicile, changing the municipality where they vote, as well as to include the social name in the voter registration card – in the case of transsexuals and transvestites. The same limit applies to seniors and people with reduced mobility requesting the transfer of the polling place to an accessible section.
TRE-SP warns that those who performed the biometrics collection need not worry, as the procedure is still suspended due to the covid-19 pandemic. Those who have not collected so far will be able to vote normally in October, even those who had the title canceled for not having attended the mandatory reviews in 2019 and 2020. The effects of the cancellation were suspended by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).
With the end of the electoral register approaching, the number of voters between 15 (with 16 years of age before the elections) and 17 years of age has grown in the state of São Paulo. “This month, there was a significant increase in the issuance of bonds for this age group, totaling approximately 272,000 until this Wednesday (27), 43% more compared to the end of March”, informed the TRE São Paulo.
The same occurs in the rest of Brazil, and most regional electoral courts have adopted some type of reinforcement in face-to-face services, due to increased demand.
It is worth remembering, however, that all procedures related to the voter registration card, including the issuance of the document for the first time, can be carried out entirely online, without the need to leave the house, through the Online voter support.
The deadline for issuing or modifying information related to the voter registration card is due to the Law of Elections, which provides for the closing of the electoral register 150 days before the election. This year, the closing date fell to May 5th.
