In the case of the CEO summit, the maximum representation was led by the president of the Business Coordinating Council. But the delegation of Mexican CEOs was not as large as on other occasions, despite the strong economic ties with the region.
On the positive side of the Mexican presence, some cases were very relevant. Fortunately, two businesswomen shone from Mexico, very different from each other.
The first was Blanca Treviño, a renowned businesswoman from Monterrey who set up the main software company in Latin America from scratch: Softtek. Another great attribute of Blanca Treviño is having been the first woman to join what was known as the Mexican Council of Businessmen, and who eliminated the “men” from her name thanks to her. Today, there are four women in the CMN.
Treviño participated in a relevant way, as Colider with Vice President Kamala Harris, in the launch of the “In Her Hands” program of the Alliance for Central America. This program seeks to promote more female participation in the region’s economy.
The fact that this important Mexican businesswoman is co-leader of an initiative that seems so important to the vice president of the United States is a great point in favor of Mexico.
The other exemplary businesswoman who was in Los Angeles is the young Fátima Álvarez, founder of a very interesting SME called Someone Somehwhere. Her focus is to support textile artisan women from southern Mexico to place her products.
With this company, Álvarez supports more than 200 artisans, mainly from Oaxaca and Chiapas, to increase their sales. He has gotten the middlemen out of the way, connecting them directly with buyers and also with manufacturers to increase their production capacity.
A great achievement is that, starting this year, Delta airlines delivers its kits for first-class travelers in textile bags made by the artisans of Someone Somewhere, giving them visibility throughout the world.
Fátima was invited by Google to participate in a panel at the Summit together with the global CEO of this important technology company, Sundar Pichai, thus giving projection to her successful venture. Few in the world have had such an opportunity.
It is a pride that two women, a consolidated technology businesswoman and a young entrepreneur with a social dimension, have stood out from the Mexican business community.
