Santo Domingo.- The former Secretary of the Armed Forces, retired Major General José Miguel Soto Jiménez, expressed his full support for the transformation process that the Government is carrying out in the National Police, to dismantle the corrupt structure that historically controlled that institution.
The great military strategist and statesman stated that the diagnosis of the situation found in the Police was already known, as revealed by the commissioner for the reform, José Vila del Castillo, now it is time to “cure that body” in favor of the entire entity , and not of the corrupt network denounced.
“Most of the Police are made up of good and very capable people,” declared the retired high-ranking military officer.
The also historian and writer raised the need to now integrate the transformative process from the general director to the private, all for the good of the Police and the Nation.
He considered adequate the implementation of quadrant patrols in the central polygon, which he understands must be accompanied by measures to deter crime.
Soto Jiménez, who began his career in the Armed Forces at the age of 17, affirms that the government’s measure will help reduce common crime in the main sectors of the National District.
From August 16, 2000 TO August 16, 2004, Soto Jiménez was secretary of the Armed Forces, the institution where he received academic training.
He commanded all the combat units according to their respective ranks, from platoon, section and detachment, to brigade. He was one of the founders of the Patrol and Rescue Unit, today known as the MIDE Counterterrorism Unit (UCT-MIDE); He also commanded the 16th Battalion of Lancers in El Seibo and the 6th Battalion of Army Hunters, in which he created courses for expert officers in mountain operations.
He also carried out hard work as an instructor and promoter of the educational system at the higher level of the Armed Forces.
