The ninth edition of the Univerano Cordillerano 2023 will take place from January 21 to February 11 at the ILAE (Instituto Libre de Altos Estudios) in the Loma Guazú neighborhood of Caacupé. It will bring together, as every year, great thinkers from Paraguay and abroad on the great issues of the country and the world.
Carlos Jara, former presidential candidate for the “Patria Soñada” (PPS) party, will talk about his experience as a candidate and the reasons why he decided to give up his claims.
He maintained that when he had to comment on politics, he would always remember the good. Of the Paraguayan people, noble, eager for education. From the citizen who expects a change and a transformation.
“I had two parties as a candidate and it turns out that when you go to those very small parties, one goes as a driver, but those who govern are the government boards that only aspire to put in a senator and a deputy. They don’t want to be big, they just want to survive with electoral subsidies. So they don’t want to be big, when one raises the ideas of change and transformation of the Republic, they don’t listen, in the end they raise how much money are you going to put, how much is your capital to sustain this. I can support a campaign of my own with pamphlets and some other things. I belong to the middle class, I am not a senator, I am not a representative, I have never been a minister. I can afford my campaign but I can’t pay such a senator for him to be a candidate. So the level of debate of the political parties is low, nobody speaks to change the country, ”he explained.
He recalled the experience that happened in the town of Remansito (an area located after the Remanso bridge, where 50,000 people live, but 70% of the families do not have property titles). Once he called one of the leaders of that area and he asked him not to bother him again, because the general was not in a position to bring boxes of chickens and much less money to the residents so that they vote for him.
DEMOCRACY
Finally, he analyzed the concept of “democracy” and what it means in our country. He affirmed that democracy is the functioning of the three powers in balance. And how well applied it generates justice. However, in Paraguay, democracy is loyalty to political parties.
“There is a great appetite to be in the Paraguayan State, so it becomes red because that way you can enter the public service, in the absence of public and economic policies that generate employment. It cannot be that there is so much dependence on the State.
