
Ramón Guanipa, son of the leader opposition politician Juan Pablo Guanipa He denounced this Monday the lack of medical care for his father and demanded that the authorities allow his immediate evaluation while he remains detained.
Through Juan Pablo Guanipa’s social network X, his son warned that the family has no information about his current status.
“His current health condition is completely unknown to our family,” he wrote.
At the same time, he demanded that family visits be authorized, “immediate attention” be guaranteed and “international standards be met and his fundamental rights be respected.”
Guanipa, leader of the Primero Justicia party and close ally of the opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize 2025, María Corina Machadowas arrested on May 23 during a police operation, after remaining in hiding. The government assured that the action sought to dismantle an alleged plan to “boycott” the regional and legislative elections through alleged “terrorist acts.”
According to authorities, more than 70 people were detained in that procedure, including foreign citizens. However, human rights organizations and opposition sectors classify Guanipa like a political prisoner.
The leader’s last public appearance occurred on January 9 of this year, when he accompanied Machado in a protest in Caracas, one day before the swearing-in of Nicolás Maduro for his third consecutive term. The mobilization supported the opposition claim about the victory of Edmundo González Urrutia in the presidential elections of July 2024.
