SAN LUIS POTOSÍ, Mexico.- A group of 60 specialists from the Lidio Ramón Pérez thermoelectric plant in Felton, belonging to the Holguin municipality of Mayarí, came to collaborate with the actions undertaken at the plant Antonio Guiterasfrom Matanzas, which is out of service.
The Facebook page of the state company reported the news and stated that with the help of specialists, “work is being done on solve the failure of the turbine regulation pump system”.
According to the company, a significant amount of corrective actions will also be carried out, such as inspections and maintenance in other areas of the plant to ensure its subsequent start-up.
The Antonio Guiteras Thermoelectric Power Plant (CTE), one of the largest generating plants in the country, was disconnected from the National Electric System (SEN) on Wednesday and although the managers did not predict more than one day of interruption, they extended the shutdown of the thermoelectric plant to a week.
“The shutdown of the Antonio Guiteras CTE will be extended to 7 days to continue the repair work and to take advantage of every minute to work on cleaning and maintenance of other equipment that also needs it,” was the official statement issued.
The weekend in Cuba begins with six thermoelectric units out of service. In addition to Guiteras, the first and second units of the Santa Cruz thermoelectric plant (CTE), the second unit of the Felton CTE and units five and six of Rente are also out of service.

For Friday, the state-owned company estimated a maximum power generation capacity of 2,292 megawatts (MW) and a demand of up to 3,000 MW, for a deficit of 778 MW. The forecast assumes that more than a quarter of Cuba will be blacked out during peak hours on August 30.
Last Wednesday, the island recorded one of the highest power outages in three months (39%), although still below the 45% outage reported in February of this year.
Power cuts are already reaching all provinces (although they are worse outside of Havana).
