Some 300 Cuban migrants crossed the Rio Grande in a single day

MIAMI, United States.- The Cuban migration crisis continues throughout the region and it is not yet clear how it will end and when. While news of arrests, crossings and landings flood the news pages, this Wednesday it was learned that more than 300 Cubans crossed the Rio Grande to the United States in a single day.

According to a report by the Mexican media Plinththe migrants managed to circumvent the security established on the Mexican side, and reached the banks of the Rio Grande camouflaged among local residents “who come to enjoy the fresh waters of the river to mitigate the high temperatures.”

“In a few seconds they took advantage of the carelessness of the authorities and jumped into the water holding hands to form human chains and thus face the strong current of the river increased by the transfer of water from the La Amistad dam to the Falcón dam. in Tamaulipas”, reads the Zócalo note.

According to the Mexican authorities, the Cubans who managed to reach US soil celebrated hugging each other and raising their hands to the sky.

In recent months, the numbers of Cubans crossing the Rio Grande with the aim of reaching the United States have been on the rise. This Tuesday a reporter from Impact Vision News broadcast live the crossing of a group of Cubans by river.

During the trajectory of the group, in which a minor and citizens of Venezuela and Nicaragua were also traveling, the migrants had to face strong currents, especially in the last section.

Just two weeks ago, another group of some 14 Cuban migrants, including a family with a three-year-old boy, was rescued by Mexican and US authorities when they were about to be swept away by the current.

During the month of March alone, more than 32,000 Cuban migrants entered through the southern border of the United States, a migratory exodus that could only be compared to the Mariel of 1980.
