OnCubaNews

Although it has not reached the figure of 30,000 per month, the program parole announced in January by the White House has brought some 14,000 Cubans to the United States, federal sources said to the Univision television network.

The program also covers Nicaraguans: so far more than 7,000 have entered the United States. Likewise, more than 18,000 Haitians and 32,000 Venezuelans have benefited. This last figure is much higher because the program began for Venezuelans in October of last year. In total, more than 70,000 people have received the parole humanitarian.

“It is true that it is a low figure for the strength of the Cuban community in South Florida. But the conditions of the program often do not make life easier for people in a moment of crisis, ”he commented to OnCuba the lawyer Luis González.

More than 4,700 Cubans have been authorized to enter the US through a new parole program

Its creation was a consequence of the crisis on the border with Mexico. The government wanted to take pressure off him and various officials have said that They have achieved it by 90% between the nationalities involved. According to the Customs and Border Protection Office, in February of this year 6,548 Cubans appeared at the border, a reduced number compared to the 44,078 who crossed in December 2022.

The program is a Biden initiative: it allows the legal and humanitarian entry into the United States of citizens of Cuba, Nicaragua, Haiti and Venezuela who do not have permanent residence in a third country and have a sponsor who is responsible for their expenses.

It was launched on January 6, 2023 with the aim of reducing the flow of undocumented migrants arriving at the southern border and offering people a safe and orderly alternative.
