Solemn session in honor of the cry of Independence of the Venezuelan people

This Tuesday in the Santa Rosa de Lima Chapel in the city of Caracas, a solemn session was held in commemoration of the 212 years of the cry for independence on April 19, 1810.

The mayor of Caracas, Carmen Meléndez, was in front of the speech and assured that, 212 years later, Venezuela remains firm in the defense of its sovereignty.

“Here we are the same people without bending our knees before any empire, we continue to build a more just society,” he said.

He explained that Caracas has been a fundamental part of history because it has been the space where power struggles have been concentrated, defeated by the people.

“Caracas will always reverberate throughout Venezuela and all the countries of the world, we will continue to resist and win every fight and every battle,” he said.

In the same way, he recalled that the Museum of Caracas will be open to the public so that all the people can relive history.

“In the commemoration of the 212 years of history, we have recovered the Hall of Symbols in Caracas, because the symbols are part of history,” he said.

The mayor, together with the head of government of the Capital District, Nahum Fernández, showed the Declaration of Independence while the respective honors were performed.

The order speaker was in charge of historian Omar Hurtado, who highlighted the significance of the date “this was the day that Venezuela decided to break the chains of oppression.”

He recalled that in the year 1810 there was an adverse reaction in the Mantuan class against the domination of France, but that day the then Captain General Vicente Emparan was called to the Cabildo, in the place the pardos and mestizos arrived for the first time «it is in Caracas where the first firm act of independence is produced” affirmed the historian.

Representatives of the National Executive Power, the National Assembly, diplomatic corps and councilors of the Municipal Chamber attended the Solemn act.

For his part, the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, posted through his Twitter account the importance of this date for the defense of the Homeland.

«#19Apr date that summons us to the defense of the Republic, just as our Liberators did 212 years ago, at the beginning of the independence struggle in Venezuela. It is the only way: protect the freedom and sovereignty of our country. Together we will win!” reads the message.
