Justice released the two soldiers on Wednesday accused of shooting José Luis Aquino Gonzáles, 21, during an operation against beer smuggling, carried out on the highway that connects the municipalities of Cotoca and Pailón.
Prosecutor Camilo Velásquez informed the media that for this case yesTwo investigations were opened: one for attempted homicide and another of course contraband. It was through the first process that the two members of the army who were operating together with the Customs officials were placed under custody.
The judge granted unrestricted liberty to one of the defendants, while the other benefited from house arrest. This last official would be the one who admitted to the Prosecutor’s Office that he fired at the Nissan vehicle, with license plate 4064SNA, in which José Luis Aquino was transporting, but clarified that he did not do it with the intention of injuring him.
This version was also confirmed by the regional manager of Customs Santa Cruz, José Luis Mollinedo, who also indicated that five people were apprehended during the operation against the smuggling of beers, coming from the border with Brazil, on the road to Pailas.
“On Tuesday, a vehicle driven by two brothers (a man and a woman) was intercepted, who tried to flee by accelerating and in a maneuver tried to ram the customs control personnel, for which reason orA soldier fired at the vehicle’s tire, but unfortunately he injured the driver”, explained Mollinedo.
Likewise, the Customs manager said that the five apprehended in this case will be prosecuted for the crime of aggravated smuggling. In addition, he pointed out that three vehicles were hijacked, one of which was taken to the Felcc to carry out the investigations in which José Luis Aquino was wounded by a bullet.
