In Quindío, a soldier assigned to the Eighth Brigade of the Army, who finished his high school degree while serving in the military, saved all his bonuses during the 18 months to pay for his university studies by leaving, buying a computer and realizing his dream of being a systems engineer.
This is the story of the soldier Charlie Ramos Uribe, who at 22 years old and after hearing that the afternoon was taking over because at his age he didn’t even have a high school diploma, he didn’t think twice and decided to put his life on the accelerator.

“In these 18 months I managed to take two courses thanks to the time I had, Not only did I manage to finish high school but I had the opportunity to become certified in Food Handling, thanks to the official professionals of the reserve. “I’m going to get out once and for all with work,” said the uniformed man.
From day one when he put on his boots and camouflage, Ramos was clear about his direction, while he served the Homeland as a soldier from the Combat Support and Service Battalion #8, Cacique Calarcá based in Armenia, I was planning every step and every weight. “In my economic projection I was able to save these 18 months and managed to obtain $6,000,000 pesos.
I had everything calculated and analyzed to start paying for a systems engineering degree. I am going to add the money that they are going to give us for licensing, which are $4,000,000 pesos, I will buy a computer that will be the starting point for the computer company that I want to move forward,” he said.
“Soldier Ramos is not only a dreamer but also respectful and disciplined, aspects that have already opened the doors to the world of work for him. even being inside the institution”said Lieutenant Colonel Ronald Leonardo García Esquivel, commander of the Combat Support and Service Battalion.
“He is a committed, courteous and disciplined young man who has shown an evolution and that makes me quite happy because he has established himself in the institution. “He finished his high school degree while serving and now at the end of this stage he will have the opportunity to work with a private company,” the officer stated.

From the active reserve of the 8th service battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Martha Cecilia Gallo Betancouth, highlighted the support that these young people have, not only while they have the camouflage on but in what they project when crossing the doors of the military installations.
Jennifer Bermúdez, captain of the active reserve of the Army, is a psychologist and highlighted the importance of the tools that the institution gives to these guys when they know how to take advantage of them.
In a few days, soldier Ramos will simply become Charlie, just another citizen, but with clear goals and objectives that he has already begun to materialize, and in that same vein, in a few years he will surely be known as the engineer.
