In the opinion of a Nicaraguan sociologist, the alarming frequency of crimes on the Nicaraguan Caribbean Coast, which has claimed the lives of girls, women and men in different bloody events; it can lead communities to a dangerous normalization of violence.
“This is an area of the country that must be addressed immediately. You can’t wait any longer because violence is attacking, “warned the specialist, who for her safety, asks to make this call under strict care of her identity.
“Violence against women and girls is constant,” warned the sociologist, who has dedicated her entire life to research on gender issues.

The researcher, who asked that her identity remain anonymous, has observed that apart from the femicides, the murders of indigenous people at the hands of armed settlers during their invasions, have claimed the lives of seven community members from different places.
“I would like to mention that, on the North Caribbean Coast, the invasion of settlers is normalizing, also seeing so many communities that are being attacked by settler men who take over the land and who are armed is unfortunate,” he criticized.
“One comes to think that if they operate with such impunity, such tranquility, these people have an affinity with the Army and the Police, why, what explanation is there? They are armed and they don’t care, they kill and they don’t care,” he added.
“They are killing them”
The expert stressed that there are days in Nicaragua where “nowhere in the country is there security for anyone.” In addition, she pointed out that another tragic aspect of each day is crimes against women.
“They are happening more frequently, more viciously. Some prevention primers against femicide promoted by the government are useless, it is not the response that the victims need, they do not stop gender violence,” said the specialist.
«Anyone kills you in the street and you got there, it is very difficult for justice to be done and for women, there are almost none, because the majority of women, as is the case on the Caribbean Coast and rural areas of Nicaragua, are poor women. who barely made it to primary school and are completely alone,” she added.
Likewise, the sociologist explained that in the case of the Caribbean there is a mixture of various cultures of various ethnic groups, and unfortunately, it is where machismo prevails. “Machismo is well entrenched in the Caribbean, women are being killed and we cannot sit idly by,” she said.
“That culture is not going to end, nor is violence going to be eradicated until it is investigated, until a comprehensive response strategy is articulated, otherwise the deaths will continue,” insisted the sociologist.
