A committee of engineers from different branches went to the aquifer area of Lomas de Arena to start a data survey and establish the environmental damage caused by the invaders in the place.

The Director of Environmental Quality of the Government, María Julia Parada, indicated that, with the professionals of the Santa Cruz regional Society of Engineers of Bolivia (SIB), they began the data collection in the buffer area. “Since the MPublic Ministry and the Police acted and removed the people, we are doing the data collection to define what type of action to take, be it remediation or adaptation,” he said.
The studies will be sent to the municipalities of Santa Cruz de la Sierra and La Guardia, since the property is under both jurisdictions and according to their competencies, each one should develop tasks.
“As the Governorate, we will continue to carry out the work to redefine the field and protect the buffer area of the UCPN (Natural Heritage Conservation Unit) of Las Lomas de Arena,” he said.
Vice President of the Santa Cruz Society of Engineers, Roly Mancilla, indicated that a team of 21 forestry engineers, chemists, industrialists, environmentalists, biologists and others are the ones who will carry out the study. “HThey will carry out the inspection and then make recommendations to recover the affected area,” he said.
The president of the society of environmental engineers, Marisol Yabeta, it also accompanies the evaluation work and pointed out that the surface and groundwater of the subjugated area will be analyzed.
The owners of the Kim properties have been denouncing since October 22 that more than 300 people had taken over his property, located in the Lomas de Arena water-bearing area; however, after several episodes of violence where its workers, neighbors and even journalists were violently attacked, the Police intervened in the area and evicted the attackers.
During the intervention, 13 people were apprehended, bladed weapons were confiscated such as machetes, knives, as well as explosives, and proceeded to destroy some 200 precarious houses that the land takers raised to seize the area.
