At a press conference, Francisco Barboza, Attorney General of Colombia, announced details of the investigations that led to the arrest of five people for the crime of Paraguayan prosecutor Marcelo Pecci.
Among the five, only four assumed the charges, that is, they confessed that they received a payment of US$500,000 for the crime from the Paraguayan prosecutor in Cartagena last Tuesday, May 10.
“It is an exceptional case from the point of view of the investigation. The police speak with results, we managed to get 4 out of 5 criminals to accept the charges. Thanks to the investigative work we accomplished in 22 days. Reconstruction of the crime and what had previously happened in the preparatory work on the island of Barú,” he said.
The Prosecutor’s Office and the Colombian police carried out a total of 20 studied places, 2,500 hours of video analysis, 67 telephone interceptions, 14 photographic reconnaissance and more than 3,000 investigative tasks.
“This shows that after committing a homicide in Cartagena it is not possible to get away with a crime of that level. Colombia is a very complex place for crime », he stressed at another time.
