In the eighth report presented by the Ombudsman’s Office, it was evidenced that there is not good solid waste management in Arequipabecause in recent weeks, several district municipalities could be criminally denounced for crimes against the environment and omission of functions.

Being last in management, the authorities of Socabaya, Paucarpata, Cerro Colorado and Alto Selva Alegre, abandoned their duties to collect the garbage from the containers, harming the public health of their jurisdiction.

MAYORS CAN BE DENOUNCED

The defense chief in Arequipa, Ángel María Manrique, said that the Public Ministry should have already urged these municipalities and in case of non-compliance, proceed with the criminal complaint of a prison sentence of 2 to 6 years.

“At year-end parties, production is higher but you should not stop attending until the last day (December 31). As for the new authorities, they must have contingency planes for January 1, even if it is a holiday and piles of garbage are not generated on the corners that cause very serious damage to public health, ”he said.
