Sobella Mejías, former rector of the CNE, regretted that there is not a more expeditious update of the Electoral Registry in Venezuela and highlighted the need to urgently address the issue of voting abroad. She believes that in the dialogue that the delegations of the ruling party and the opposition in Mexico personify, they should talk about the aspects that have to do with solving the crisis that harms the country.
The former main rector of the National Electoral Council (CNE) and leader of Acción Democrática in Lara state, Sobella Mejías, considers that updating the Electoral Registry (RE) in Venezuela has been neglected and believes that it is propitious to call on the electoral body to that can be expanded and updated through an operation in all the municipalities of the country.
In an interview published this Sunday, December 11 in Momentum, Mejías considers that there is an important debt of the CNE with respect to the RE. She regretted that the work in which she was involved, of allowing 18-year-olds to update their information or register, was paralyzed and has not been resumed vigorously.
This leads to talk about voting abroad. For the former director of the CNE, this issue has to be addressed with special importance since she believes that there may be discrimination against these people.

«You cannot be asking them for conditions that are not in the Constitution or in the laws. Because the only thing that is established is that citizens who are outside the country must have turned 18 and be registered in the Electoral Registry. And put an end to that discrimination that has been applied since 2004 here, that they have to prove their legal status in the country where they are,” Mejías said.
In his opinion, the conditioning made by the president Nicolás Maduro in days gone by to have free elections if they eliminate the sanctions is only a political statement, since citizens have the right to demand that political rights be respected and that they are enshrined in the Human Rights of each person.
» And, by virtue of this, we can choose freely, without coercion, without intimidation, in conditions of equality and in all the specifications contemplated in the Constitution. It is not a gift, it is the right that we have to give ourselves the destiny that we want and deserve, “he said.
Sobella Mejías believes that in the dialogue personified by the delegations of the ruling party and the opposition in Mexico, they should talk about the aspects that have to do with solving the crisis that harms the country, since what should be done about the elections has already been mentioned run.

He explained that the CNE needs at least six months to organize an election and a series of steps must be followed to provide reliability to the process in which Venezuelans participate. He added that there should be a debugging and updating of the RE; the technicians of the political parties must review the systems and establish the witnesses.
She is in favor of betting on the primary process to elect a unitary candidate and that this, in turn, be supported by the other parties when a winner is proclaimed. He mentioned that the candidate of the Acción Democrática faction led by Henry Ramos Allup, Carlos Prosperi, works to campaign despite not having all the means available to campaign.
