So far this year, firefighters have attended 10 thousand 374 emergencies nationwide

About 115 daily emergencies is the average attended by the National Directorate of Extinction, Search and Rescue Operations (DOEXBURE), of the Meritorious Fire Department of the Republic of Panama (BCBRP) during the first quarter of 2022.

According to the DOEXBURE Radio Control Section, a total of 10,374 emergencies were attended to and revealed that the highest number of attentions was recorded in March, with 4,288.

They detailed that the most frequent emergency was due to the attack or presence of Africanized bees with 3,637 cases, followed by grassland fires with 2,579 in addition to and 1,084 care for injured people.

The authorities reveal that the cases of Africanized bees occurred in the provinces of Chiriquí, with 736; Panama with 560 and Los Santos with 578.

While, in the case of grassland fires, these were more frequent in the provinces of Chiriquí, with 557; West Panama, 452 and Panama with 406 attentions. During this period there were a total of 145 structural fires, of which 53 correspond to the month of January, 50 to February and 42 to March.

The provinces most affected by this incident are Panama, with 40 cases; Chiriquí, 40 and Panamá Oeste with 18 fires. Vehicle fires totaled 122 in this period, with the month of February being the month with the highest incidence, with 47 cases.
