So far this year, 700 blockades have been reported on the country's roads

Effects of blockades

According to the governor of Valle del Cauca, Dilian Francisca Toro, the 72 hours that this corridor was blocked affected “more than 40% of foreign trade, with 8,000 vehicles dammed and million-dollar losses for Buenaventura, the Valley and Colombia.”

“The situation is already beginning to affect the food supply for thousands of PAE beneficiary children and older adults in the department,” expressed Toro in his X account.

During that period, Gases de Occidente, a company that supplies Buenaventura, as well as other municipalities in Valle del Cauca and the neighboring department of Cauca, warned that the pause in traffic It was making it impossible for trucks to pass through and, therefore, preventing the supply of this energy.

According to the cargo transporters union, Colfecar, as of September 30, there have been reports 700 blockades on national roads, generating 10,930 hours of impact, equivalent to 455 days of lost productivity.

The above represents an increase of 11% in relation to the cases registered in the same period of 2024. As for the most affected departments, the list is headed Tolima (90), followed by Bolívar (69), Atlántico (61), Córdoba (48) and Meta (43).

“We reiterate our call to the National Government and the Ministry of the Interior to guarantee the right to free mobility, work and health, rights that are violated with each road closure,” the union indicated.

Colfecar also highlighted that the economic losses resulting from these interruptions on the country’s main roads It already amounts to $1.9 billion.
