Longo was arrested on the afternoon of August 25, along with her son, after a commission from the Criminal Investigation Directorate (DIP) of the Bolivarian National Police (PNB) arrived at her home with a search warrant “that only referred to articles 196 of the Copp (Organic Code of Criminal Procedure) and 47 of the Constitution,” the union detailed earlier.
According to the STNP, two of the security guards at the building where the journalist lives, located in the Horizonte development (Sucre municipality in the Metropolitan Area of Caracas), were witnesses to the raid.

The SNTP said that after searching for Longo for four hours in “different police stations, it was discovered that he was in the DIP, in Maripérez,” in the Libertador municipality of Caracas.
The journalist’s son was released after being questioned at the headquarters of the Criminal Investigation Directorate (DIP) in Maripérez.
Longo is an Italian citizen and that is her only nationality.

IACHR issues statement on Longo’s arrest

On August 24, the Special Rapporteur for Freedom of Expression (RELE) of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) condemned the arrests of journalists and the persecution of media outlets in Venezuela during the post-election period.
