The circumstances of the arrest of the student Omario Castellanos, who works for the digital media Soy Larense, and his relatives have not been clarified so far by the authorities, said the SNTP.
The National Union of Press Workers (SNTP) denounced the arbitrary detention of social communication student Omario Castellanos, along with his mother and brother, in the state of Lara.
The arrest of Castellanos and his family took place this Friday, October 17, at his residence west of Barquisimeto, the SNTP detailed in your account on the social network X. The union also pointed out that the young man works in the digital medium I am Larenseis a student at the University of Yacambú and is waiting for his degree to be awarded.
The circumstances of his arrest have not been clarified so far by the authorities.

Days before this arrest, the SNTP had already warned about an increase in censorship in radio media, after receiving reports of threats and temporary suspensions to journalists for covering issues of public interest, such as the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to the opposition leader María Corina Machado and the attacks against Venezuelan activists abroad.
According to the union, at least 12 press workers are detained for political reasons in the country, some for three years, such as journalist Ramón Centeno, who is being held at the main headquarters of the Anti-Drug Command of the National Guard (Conas) in Caracas.
