Santo Domingo. – The National Health Service (SNS) stated that it has the required endowment of nursing staff in all the establishments that make up the public network of health services, to guarantee the continuity and quality of care to the population.
Through a press release, the Human Resources Director of the institution, Jasmine Pérez, explained that, according to the international standards defined by the World Health Organization (WHO)the appropriate nursing staffing ratio is 4.7 for every 8 hospital beds and 1.2 for every intensive care bed.
The SNS has the resources of required nursing staff for hospital beds, ICU, health programs, emergencies, operating rooms and outpatient care. This installed capacity allows us to supply all health care components efficiently. From the point of view of nursing resources, we are duly covered,” Pérez emphasized.
The director of Human Resources explained that the SNS has 191 hospitals with a total of 8,732 hospital bedsof which 325 correspond to Intensive Care Units (ICU). While, at the First Level of Care, the provision of nursing staff is organized by Primary Care Unit (UNAP), of which there are 1,986 active throughout the national territory.
He indicated that to guarantee the continuous supply of health services they have 20,291 employees in the nursing areadistributed between the first level of care and the specialized level, which allows us to respond in a timely and safe manner to the health needs of citizens.
