Snowfall and rainfall in La Araucanía: 2,800 people are isolated

The National Emergency Office (Onemi) reported that, until 00:30 hours on Monday, 2,801 people were isolated in the region of La Araucanía as a result of the snowfall and rainfall that affect the area.

Let us remember that Onemi reported on Saturday that 1,250 people remained isolated in the region. However, that figure rose considerably by early Monday morning.

Communes in which there are isolated

The commune that concentrates the largest number of isolates is in Lonquimay, with 2,287 people (572 families). This, due to the snowfalls that were recorded in the rural sectors of Icalma, Cruzaco, Huallenmapu, Marimenuco, Galletué, Pedregoso, Huallipulli, El Naranjo, Mallín de Treile, Huachicahue, Pehuenco Alto, Pehuenco Bajo, Pino Solo, Piedra Blanca, Tralihue , Caracoles, Contraco, Llamas, Llanquén, Ranquil, Pehuenco Ranquil, Pelehu, Mitrauquén Alto, Mitrauquén Bajo, Pichipehuenco and Quinquén.

Lonquimay is followed by Curarrehue, with 236 people (59 families) isolated in the sectors of Reigolil, Panqui, Panqui access to hot springs, Chilcos Altos, Rinconada – Carén Alto, Añihuarraqui – Las Peinetas, Huincapalihue – Añihuarraqui, Coloco and Malalco. The Hydraulic Works Directorate (DOH) together with the Housing and Urban Development Service (SERVIU) will carry out an on-site evaluation of the overflow of the canal in the urban sector.

In Curacautín, 120 people (30 families) remain in isolation in the Manchuria Río Blanco, La Palma, Piedra Cortada, Cañón del Blanco and Piedra Santa sectors. Municipal personnel work in this event with a bulldozer and a motor grader, along with two bulldozers arranged by the Regional Presidential Delegation through the Onemi Regional Directorate.

In Cunco, 96 people (24 families) remain isolated due to the accumulation of snow in the Llanqui-llanqui, Trafanpulli and Río Blanco sectors. Vialidad together with municipal personnel maintain route clearance work. On the other hand, it is indicated that work continues on the Colico-Caburga Route towards the Reigolil sector, Curarrehue commune.

In Villarica, 32 people (eight families) are isolated in the sectors of Voipir Seco and Pino Huacho. Vialidad works with the support of a motor grader.

In the case of Pucón, 28 people remain isolated as a result of the accumulation of snow in the sectors of Palguin Alto and Bajo, Huife Alto, Los Nevados, El Papal, Coilaco Alto y Bajo, Llancalil and Huerquehue Tinquilco. Municipal staff continues to deliver aid to affected families with access difficulties.

Finally, in the case of Vilcún, two people remain isolated in the Villa Caupolicán sector. Municipal personnel work in this event with a motor grader, a snow buggy and a truck, added to Vialidad with the support of two bulldozers and a dump truck.

The Pino Hachado and Icalma Border Crossings remain closed due to weather conditions. Road staff continues to work on clearing the roads. Likewise, Conaf reported that as a preventive measure, the closure of the Villarrica National Park has been determined.

“Personnel from the respective municipalities continue to work on dealing with the various emergency situations, while the Onemi Regional Directorate continues with the coordination with the foothills and mountain range communes for advances in enabling routes and thus reduce the number of isolated product of the last snowfalls”, they indicated from Onemi.
