The Uruguayan Medical Union (SMU) asks the Executive Branch to take measures due to the requirement established by the Casmu for its health workers be affiliated to be able to work in the mutual.
“Several professionals have denounced that have been forced to join the mutual CASMU to be able to work,” said the SMU statement.
The union calls for government intervention in the matter and will make a “formal submission to the executive branch urging it to take the pertinent measures to ensure compliance with the Law and the rights of medical workers”.
According to the SMU, the mutual is violating the freedom to choose the health provider as based on the Law of the National Integrated Health System (law number 18,211). Furthermore, it breaches the International Labor Organization (ILO) conventions.
The Casmu takes this measure “in the face of financial difficulties”for which reason he is unaware of the bipartisan agreement with the SMU of December 2022. In this instance “he had promised to waive this requirement and to carry out procedures before the Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC) to modify the statutes” closes the statement.
